Riots broke out at Lukas Enembe Stadium after Persipura Jayapura lost 0-1 to Adhyaksa FC in the Championship League 2 promotion playoff on Friday, May 8, 2026.
The defeat meant Persipura failed to earn promotion to League 1 next season. Disappointed supporters entered the pitch, damaged stadium facilities, threw objects, and set vehicles ablaze outside the venue.
Police reported 10 to 11 people injured, including Ipda Arjuna who received intensive care for a head wound. Fourteen individuals were detained for questioning, while 64 to 67 vehicles were damaged or burned.
PSSI Secretary General Yunus Nusi expressed regret and noted that Indonesian football remains under FIFA scrutiny. The PSSI disciplinary committee may impose heavy sanctions on Persipura, including a ban on home matches.
