Pune police arrest couple over alleged fort murder

Police in Pune have arrested a woman and her boyfriend on charges of murdering her fiancé at Lohagad Fort on June 18. The investigation alleges the death was planned in advance.

Ketan Agarwal, 26, fell from Vinchu Kata ridge at the fort while celebrating his fiancée Siya Goyal’s birthday. Siya initially reported the death as an accident. Ketan’s father Vishal Agarwal questioned the account, noting his son’s experience as a trekker.

Pune Rural Police arrested Siya, 20, and Chetan Babulal Chaudhary, 22, after finding evidence of their relationship. Records showed about 2,000 calls between them from January to June 18, totaling more than 238 hours. The pair had allegedly visited the fort multiple times to plan the act.

Advocate Ram Shahane, representing Chaudhary, challenged the arrest. He argued the FIR lacked specific details of his client’s actions and questioned whether the relationship alone justified arrest under the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita.

The investigation continues with call records, tower data and CCTV footage cited as key evidence. A chargesheet has not yet been filed.
