Former Cabinet Secretary Raphael Tuju was reported missing on Sunday, March 22, 2026, after his vehicle was found abandoned on Miotoni Lane in Karen with hazard lights on. His family reported it to Karen Police Station after his phone went off. His driver Steve Mwanga was also reported missing, according to lawyer Paul Nyamodi. Tuju had been heading to a Ramogi radio interview Saturday evening but did not arrive. On Monday, March 23, Tuju resurfaced at his Karen residence and said he ditched his car after being trailed by suspicious unmarked vehicles—first Friday evening, then en route to the radio. He hid at a family's home near the Nairobi-Kiambu border, fearing the pursuers were from security agencies. He thanked the family, saying they saw him as a human regardless of tribe, and noted his family's trauma. Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka said he had no reason to doubt Tuju and vowed to fight abductions. Shortly after the press conference, police took Tuju to Karen Police Station to record a statement. Lawyer Ndegwa Njiru said Tuju was in poor health and criticised: 'They want to abduct him. Mark that vehicle. The manner in which they took him was unacceptable.' Videos showed Tuju distressed; doctors were deployed. Kalonzo posted: 'Hours ago, police & DCI officers surrounded and barricaded Hon. Raphael Tuju's home, refusing to let anyone leave until they had him. I personally drove him to Karen Police Station to record a statement in good faith... What followed was unacceptable.' DCI head Amin Mohamed, in a press conference, faulted Tuju's family for denying access to his Mwitu Drive, Karen home. He said investigations showed Tuju was home throughout, even when his phone was off. 'A combined operational team... deployed late in the night.' DCI indicated Tuju could face charges over an alleged staged abduction linked to his multi-million Karen property dispute with East African Development Bank over a Sh2.2 billion loan. This follows a recent police operation at Dari Park, Karen, where guards were ejected and premises sealed without court order, per Tuju.
