State Minister Mu'az Tebebate Diacon Daniel Kibret stated that leaders of religious institutions must respect Ethiopian law. He made the remarks at a forum themed “Religious Institutions for Peace and Coexistence” with representatives from various faiths. Most promote faith-based content, but some with malicious intent incite others.
At the forum, State Minister Mu'az Tebebate Diacon Daniel Kibret said leaders of religious institutions must align their content with Proclamation No. 1238/2013 on religious coexistence.
He described faith institutions as bridges but noted most operate on religious grounds while a few with bad intent incite divisions. They bear a duty to honor their country's laws, he added.
Peace Minister Mohammed Idris affirmed religious institutions' leading role. Per constitutional law, religion falls outside government affairs, he stated. Government Communication Minister Desta Tesfahu Gobazay urged them to highlight societal issues beyond faith.
The minister called religious coexistence bodies an asset for public unity and peace. Their errors erode longstanding unity foundations, he warned.
