Rio Civil Police secretary to leave post to run for Congress

Delegate Felipe Curi, Rio de Janeiro Civil Police secretary since 2024, announced he will leave the post to run for a seat in the Chamber of Deputies this year. The statement was made at an event in Copacabana.

Delegate Felipe Curi stated on September 19, during a lecture at the Grupo de Líderes Empresariais (Lide) event in Copacabana, Rio de Janeiro's South Zone, that he will resign as Civil Police secretary to run for a seat in the Chamber of Deputies. He took office in 2024 and noted that his experience led him to conclude that fighting crime requires changes to federal legislation. His resignation is set for September 20. Curi attended the event with Senator Flávio Bolsonaro (PL-RJ). Previously, he had been considered by right-wing sectors to represent the PL in the Rio gubernatorial election, but State Cities Secretary Douglas Ruas took the pre-candidacy. Before the lecture, Curi denied claims of politicized use of the Civil Police in the arrest of councilor Salvino Oliveira (PSD), which occurred in the previous week's Operação Red Legacy. In a social media video caption, he wrote: “A Polícia Civil não escolhe alvo por posição política, por grupo ou por conveniência” (The Civil Police does not choose targets based on political position, group, or convenience).
