Sébastien Lecornu asks ministers to cut budget requests for 2027

The prime minister sent a framing letter to each government member to limit funding requests deemed unrealistic given the urgency of public finances.

Sébastien Lecornu sent each minister a letter highlighting his disagreement with initial budget requests for 2027. He criticized proposals totaling more than 30 billion euros, including 24 billion for new spending.

These requests would lead to the creation of more than 23,000 jobs starting in 2027 and about 40,000 over the 2027-2029 period. The prime minister ordered a downward revision of these plans.

The letter emphasizes the urgency of restoring public finances and recalls that “if everything is a priority, nothing is.”
