A seven-year-old girl has died and her mother and grandmother were injured in Palma after a driver lost control and mounted the sidewalk. The incident took place in the Coll d'en Rabassa neighborhood on Sunday morning. Authorities are investigating whether a health issue affected the approximately 50-year-old driver.
On Sunday morning, shortly after 12:00, a tragic crash occurred in the Coll d'en Rabassa neighborhood of Palma de Mallorca. A man around 50 years old, traveling with his partner and two children in a car, lost control of the vehicle and veered onto the sidewalk at the intersection of Bailén and Can Caimari streets, in front of a butcher shop and near the local football field.
The seven-year-old girl, who was walking with her mother and grandmother, was struck and died at the scene. Her mother sustained serious injuries and was taken to Son Espases University Hospital, while her grandmother suffered a clavicle fracture and minor injuries, receiving treatment at Clínica Juaneda. The driver tested negative for alcohol and was unharmed but was taken to the hospital for further tests. Initial investigations suggest a possible medical issue as the cause of the accident.
Emergency services from SAMU 061, Palma Local Police, and National Police responded to aid the victims and secure the area. A team of psychologists from 112 provided support to the girl's family. No further details have been reported about the car's other occupants beyond them being unharmed. Authorities are continuing to clarify the exact circumstances of the incident.
