Son charged with father's murder after claiming suicide

A Pennsylvania man faces first-degree murder charges for allegedly killing his father, despite initially telling police it was a suicide. Autopsy results three months later revealed the gunshot wound could not have been self-inflicted. Authorities linked the gun to the suspect, who bought it weeks before the shooting.

Justin Wilson, 23, was arrested on Friday and charged with first-degree murder in the death of his 61-year-old father, Kevin Wilson. The incident occurred at their home in Trappe, Pennsylvania, where Pennsylvania State Police responded at 12:19 a.m. on February 1. Officers found Kevin Wilson dead in his bedroom from a gunshot wound to the head, with signs of a struggle and blood on Justin Wilson's clothes, according to the Montgomery County District Attorney's Office. The father was loosely gripping a Taurus handgun at the scene. Prosecutors stated that Justin Wilson purchased the gun on January 10, just weeks earlier. Justin initially claimed his father shot himself during an argument over a UFC match, where he called him a 'bum and a [expletive] loser.' He denied any physical fight despite broken furniture. An autopsy ruled the death a homicide, citing wound characteristics, stippling, bullet trajectory, lack of blood on the victim's hands, and no stippling on his face. Family members described a strained relationship, with Justin bullying his father, fixating on money, and inquiring about inheritance shortly after the death. Kevin's siblings had often heard from him about handling his son's erratic behavior. Justin Wilson faces additional charges of third-degree murder, tampering with evidence, false reports to law enforcement, and possessing an instrument of crime. He is held without bond at the Montgomery County Detention Facility. His next court date is scheduled for May 19.
