South Carolina woman sentenced to 14 years for DUI death

A South Carolina woman pleaded guilty and received a 14-year prison sentence for a DUI crash that killed a motorcyclist last year.

Kayla Tisdale, 38, entered her plea on Tuesday in connection with the April 4, 2025, crash in Little River. She admitted to one count of felony DUI resulting in death before Circuit Court Judge Michael Nettles, who imposed the sentence immediately.

The crash occurred along Sea Mountain Highway when Tisdale failed to yield while driving a 2011 Cadillac SUV. Her blood alcohol content measured 0.19, nearly three times the legal limit. Steven Marshall, 62, was riding a 2003 Honda scooter and died almost instantly.

Tisdale left the scene to pick up her daughter from school but was arrested the same day after witnesses photographed her license plate. She told troopers she had been drinking since 8:30 a.m. due to stress from a separate federal investigation.

Tisdale also pleaded guilty earlier this year in federal court to misprision of a felony involving $750,000 in cash and gold bullion tied to drug trafficking. She awaits sentencing on that charge.
