Star citizen reaches $1 billion in funding

Star Citizen has raised over $1 billion from more than 6.5 million people. The space combat simulation remains in an alpha state nearly nine years after entering early access in 2017.

The project began with a 2012 Kickstarter campaign that exceeded its $500,000 goal by raising more than $2.1 million. Funding continued to grow, setting a crowdfunding record of $55 million by 2014. By the time of its early access launch in 2017, the total stood above $170 million.
