Around 3 p.m., as they were skiing down the mountain, the woman and the New Zealander went off route and slid down the mountainside in a fall of about 400 meters. The third person in the group alerted rescue services, and a mountain rescue team was dispatched. The search lasted several hours, and the injured were not found until late in the evening, around 11 p.m., after more than eight hours exposed to the elements. Despite the harsh conditions, both were alive when located. The woman could not speak, and her condition was described as critical by Japanese media, while the man was seriously injured. The next morning, they were transported by helicopter to a hospital about 100 kilometers south of Tokyo. The Swedish Foreign Ministry (UD) has confirmed that they are aware of the accident involving a Swedish woman in Japan but cannot comment further on the case. SVT has sought additional information from UD, but nothing more has emerged.
