Tropical Storm Genevieve forms in Pacific and could reach Category 3

Tropical Storm Genevieve formed on Friday, July 24, from Tropical Depression Seven-E in the Pacific Ocean. The system is located far from Mexican coasts and poses no immediate danger to the country.

According to the Servicio Meteorológico Nacional, the center of Genevieve is located about 945 kilometers south of Zihuatanejo, Guerrero. The storm has maximum sustained winds of 75 kilometers per hour with gusts of 95 km/h and is moving west-northeast at 20 km/h.

The forecast indicates that Genevieve will reach Category 1 hurricane status on Sunday, July 26, and Category 3 on July 27. It will then drop to Category 2 on July 29 while moving away from national territory.

The National Hurricane Center noted that the system could intensify rapidly in the coming days. For its part, CONAGUA is also monitoring Category 2 Hurricane Fausto, which is more than two thousand kilometers from Baja California Sur without posing a threat to Mexico.
