United States accuses Sinaloa governor of cartel links

The Southern District of New York prosecutor accused Sinaloa Governor Rubén Rocha Moya of allegedly collaborating with Los Chapitos and facilitating Sinaloa Cartel operations.

The accusation came at a sensitive time in bilateral relations, just before the start of T-MEC review negotiations scheduled for June 6.

United States interim Attorney General Todd Blanche indicated that more charges against Mexican politicians linked to drug trafficking are expected. He noted that a Mexican judge was recently indicted and that extradited traffickers, such as Ovidio Guzmán López and Joaquín Guzmán López, are cooperating with authorities.

President Claudia Sheinbaum demanded conclusive evidence and rejected any claims without solid proof. The case adds further pressure on the Mexican government amid more than 90 recent high-profile extraditions since 2025.
