Following his March conviction, Vicente Jasso was sentenced Thursday to life without parole for the 2023 kidnapping and murder of his 19-year-old ex-girlfriend Melanie Camacho. Madera County Superior Court Judge Ernest LiCalsi added enhancements of 25 years to life and four years, four months.
The sentencing comes after a Madera County jury convicted the now 25-year-old Jasso in March of first-degree murder during a kidnapping. Camacho disappeared November 24, 2023, after her AutoZone shift in Madera, having met Jasso post-breakup. Her burned car was found shortly after, her body days later in an orchard linked to Jasso's associate Jose Lopez-Hernandez. Jasso led police on a 110+ mph chase, discarding her belongings, before capture. Lopez-Hernandez pleaded guilty as an accessory after the fact, receiving three years.
The Madera County District Attorney's Office commended the Sheriff's investigation and Camacho family's resilience: 'Our thoughts and prayers remain with the Camacho family as they continue to navigate this unimaginable loss.'
