Weezer releases optimistic new single 'Shine Again'

Weezer has unveiled a new single titled 'Shine Again', produced by Kenny Beats, marking their first original music since 2022. The track serves as the lead single for the band's upcoming 16th studio album. It arrives amid preparations for a major US tour later this year.

Weezer dropped the feel-good track 'Shine Again' on Wednesday, channeling the fuzzy post-grunge sound of their early years. Frontman Rivers Cuomo delivers a fragmented vocal melody over a distorted guitar riff, building to a pop-infused chorus. In the lyrics, Cuomo sings, “The dog-walk/The dishes/The good-morning kisses/I’m nailing each task on my list,” before the uplifting refrain: “And I will tell you once again/You were always great...The sun inside will shine/Shine again, shine again.” The band announced the single as the opener for their forthcoming 16th studio album, produced by Kenny Beats—real name Kenneth Blume—and Klas Åhlund, though no title or release date has been specified yet. Åhlund recently worked on Robyn’s latest album. This release follows a series of 'initiation' events previewing Weezer's 'The Gathering' tour, including a pop-up rooftop gig in Los Angeles, an appearance at a pickleball tournament, and a show at Barney’s Beanery. The tour begins on September 8 in Sacramento and includes 32 dates across the US, wrapping up in Los Angeles on October 24. Tickets are available via the band's website. Weezer also revealed plans for a collection of early demos and rarities, set for release on Record Store Day 2026.
