Xbox admits exclusivity plans may confuse players, confirms more exclusives ahead

Xbox executives clarified their return to console exclusives, acknowledging the strategy may not be obvious to players. They confirmed Gears of War: E-Day and Clockwork Revolution mark the start of more single-player exclusives.

Xbox Chief Strategy Officer Matthew Ball stated that the company plans additional exclusive games and services beyond the two announced titles. "To grow a platform like ours, you have to have exclusive games and services. These are not going to be the only two titles," Ball said. Chief Content Officer Matt Booty added that decisions on exclusives "isn't something that's carved in stone" and will not focus solely on single-player games.

Ball noted the approach may not be "obvious to all our players" and said the company aims to improve communication. The comments follow last month's Xbox showcase and come amid ongoing layoffs, including 3,200 recent cuts and 1,600 more planned. This builds on Xbox's recent reversal from multiplatform releases for select first-party titles.
