Padres' Song Sung-mun makes MLB debut as pinch runner

San Diego Padres' Song Sung-mun made his major league debut as a pinch runner in the second game of the Mexico City Series. He entered in the top of the eighth but the Padres lost 12-7 to the Arizona Diamondbacks. The former KBO All-Star was called up as the 27th player after recovering from an oblique strain.
As the 2026 MLB season begins this week, San Francisco Giants outfielder Lee Jung-hoo will be the only Korean on an Opening Day roster. He captained South Korea to the World Baseball Classic quarterfinals earlier this month and posted strong spring training numbers. Other Korean players will miss the start due to injuries or minor league assignments.
