President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi reviewed progress on a national project to digitise and archive the Egyptian Radio and Television Union’s historical collection of nearly one million tapes.
President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi held a meeting in El Alamein City with Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly, senior media officials, and Armed Forces communications representatives. He was briefed on the project to convert nearly one million analogue audio and video tapes, totalling around 800,000 hours, into high-quality digital formats with indexed databases and cybersecurity measures.
The plans also include modernising Maspero television studios, expanding digital distribution via the planned Maspero Platform, and preserving recordings of Quran reciters and Radio Quran programmes since 1964. The presidency described the initiatives as part of the government’s “Digital First” strategy.
Al-Sisi directed officials to present the archiving progress publicly and called for closer coordination among state institutions to modernise both public and private media sectors.
