Alan Ritchson, best known for starring as the titular character in the Amazon Prime series Reacher, is taking on another intense action role in Netflix's forthcoming sci-fi thriller War Machine. In the film, Ritchson plays a tough, bulky soldier among the final recruits of a grueling special ops boot camp who encounter a deadly force from beyond this world, according to the official logline.
The ensemble cast includes Dennis Quaid, Jai Courtney, Esai Morales, Stephan James, Keiynan Lonsdale, and Daniel Webber. Directed by Patrick Hughes, the movie was shot in Victoria, Australia, a location Ritchson praised for its world-class crews and the director's efforts to bring big-budget action films to the region.
Speaking to Wired, Ritchson expressed high enthusiasm for the project: “War Machine for Netflix [is coming soon.] I think, and you heard it here first, [it’s] probably gonna be the b— no, not probably. [It’s] gonna be the biggest movie that Netflix has ever had. This movie is gonna be a monster. This is the coolest thing they’ve ever made, guaranteed.”
His co-star Jai Courtney echoed the excitement, telling the outlet, “I think that film is going to blow people away. It’s big. It’s a high concept. Alan [Ritchson]’s an absolute savage.” Ritchson also shared photos from the set on Instagram recently, giving fans a glimpse of his War Machine character, which some compare to a Terminator-like figure but described as going even further.
Ritchson highlighted his admiration for Hughes: “Pat [Patrick Hughes], I’ve been a fan of for a long time, and he’s become a good friend as well, and it was cool to go down there [to Victoria, Australia, where the film was shot]. What I really love about what he’s doing is he’s pulling these big, visionary action films into Australia and into the industry down there. I think it’s really healthy for the business down there, and it’s cool to see we have such world-class crews and locations.”
War Machine marks another high-octane entry for Ritchson following his success in Reacher, positioning it as a potential blockbuster for Netflix.
