One week ago, Alex Fitzpatrick was not a PGA Tour professional. His victory last week at the 2026 Zurich Classic of New Orleans alongside older brother Matt secured him a two-year PGA Tour card and entries into the remaining Signature Events, including this $20 million purse event at the Blue Monster course in Florida. Fitzpatrick described the rapid change as a 'whirlwind' of emotions during his Friday press conference. 'The text messages and stuff has slowed down, but the overwhelming feeling… and happiness is yet to go away,' he said. 'I think for me this year it’s going to be a whirlwind and no matter what happens it will be a success.' He added that winning with his brother 'far exceeded any expectations I ever had,' leaving him with an indelible smile. After opening with a 72, Fitzpatrick's second-round 66 put him in contention for the $3.6 million winner's prize. Seven shots back of Cameron Young, he remains optimistic. 'It means a lot. I feel like my game has been good for a while now,' Fitzpatrick said. 'I feel in control of my ball, which is nice. So hopefully I keep hitting fairways and hitting greens and yeah, we’ll see what happens this weekend.' Despite high personal expectations, he emphasized perspective. 'It is important, but it’s also not important. I think there’s bigger things in life than golf, and as much as it was amazing to win this week, I’m just trying to enjoy it,' he noted.
