Angels agree to minor league deal with Adam Frazier

The Los Angeles Angels have agreed to a minor league contract with veteran infielder Adam Frazier, adding depth and a left-handed bat to their roster. Frazier arrived at spring training camp in Tempe, Arizona, on Monday but must still pass a physical exam. The deal remains unconfirmed by the club.

According to a source, the Angels reached the agreement on Monday to bolster their infield with Frazier's experience. The 33-year-old, entering his age-34 season, brings versatility across multiple positions. He is expected to primarily play second base while also seeing time at third base and in the outfield, competing against Christian Moore at second base and Oswald Peraza, Vaughn Grissom, and non-roster invitee Chris Taylor for a utility role.

Manager Kurt Suzuki praised Frazier's attributes, stating, “He brings some veteran presence and versatility. He’s competing, like the rest of the guys. We’ll see how it goes, but he looks to be in great shape. Obviously, I played against him a lot, and know what he can do, both offensively and defensively. So having that veteran presence for that competition is going to be awesome.”

Frazier expressed enthusiasm about the opportunity: “Just a good opportunity to go in, play well and show what I can do. There’s a lot of competition going on. So just trying to take advantage of the opportunity.” He highlighted his positional flexibility, saying, “I feel like I can complement a team in a lot of places on the field. So just do what I’ve done over the past handful of years and try to be ready at every position and go in and contribute.”

In 2025, Frazier posted a .267/.319/.365 slash line over 459 plate appearances split between the Pittsburgh Pirates and Kansas City Royals, marking his best offensive output since 2021. His OPS improved by more than 100 points from the prior year, including a .722 OPS in 56 games with the Royals. Defensively, he excelled at second base with +3 Outs Above Average per Statcast and has played various infield and outfield spots in his 10-year MLB career.

Frazier has a strong history against the Angels, batting .322/.400/.496 career-wise, including .400 in 55 at-bats at Angel Stadium. “I like hitting in Anaheim,” he noted. “It’s a great place to play, and I enjoy that. But no rhyme or reason behind it.”

Additional camp notes include reliever Kaleb Ort's absence for his child's birth, right-hander Caden Dana's return after illness, and lefty Samy Natera Jr.'s arrival following visa issues. Pitchers Yusei Kikuchi and Sam Aldegheri are preparing for the World Baseball Classic, representing Japan and Italy, respectively. Third baseman Yoán Moncada reported losing 20 pounds this offseason to improve health.
