Arkansas symphony orchestra hosts modern muses chamber concert

Members of the Arkansas Symphony Orchestra will perform the fourth concert in their 2025-26 River Rhapsodies chamber music series, titled Modern Muses. The event features works by Claude Debussy, William Grant Still, Alberto Ginastera, and Philip Glass. Performances are scheduled for 7 p.m. Tuesday and 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Susie and Charles Morgan Hall in Little Rock.

The Arkansas Symphony Orchestra's River Rhapsodies series continues with its fourth installment, Modern Muses, presented by orchestra members in the intimate setting of the Susie and Charles Morgan Hall at the Stella Boyle Smith Music Center, located at 1101 E. Third St. in Little Rock's East Village.

The program opens with violinist Trisha Freeney and pianist Haeshin Shin performing the Violin Sonata by Claude Debussy. This is followed by a larger ensemble featuring violinists Meredith Hicks and Charlotte Crosmer, violist Katherine Williamson, cellist David Gerstein, harpist Alisa Bekebrede, and pianist Hee-Kyung Juhn, who will play Ennanga by William Grant Still.

After intermission, Gerstein and Juhn reunite for the Cello Sonata by Alberto Ginastera. The concert concludes with the Quapaw Quartet—Meredith Hicks and Charlotte Crosmer on violins, Timothy MacDuff on viola, and Travis Scharer on cello—presenting String Quartet No. 4 by Philip Glass.

Sponsored by Bank of America, the event highlights modern classical compositions in a chamber format. Tickets are priced at $30, with discounts to $15 for students and military personnel upon showing valid ID; prices may adjust due to demand. Reservations can be made by calling (501) 666-1761, extension 1, or visiting arkansassymphony.org.

This concert is part of the orchestra's ongoing efforts to showcase diverse musical works in the region, building on previous series events.
