Oakland Athletics catcher-turned-outfielder Tyler Soderstrom finalized his franchise-record seven-year, $86 million extension—initially reported on Christmas Day 2025—during a December 30 press conference in Las Vegas. The deal runs through 2032 with a 2033 club option. Soderstrom toured the team's future Strip ballpark site with family beforehand.

After his breakout 2025 season (.276/.346/.474, 25 HR, 93 RBI, 126 OPS+, Gold Glove finalist in left field), Soderstrom joined wife Bailey and parents Tami and Steve for a tour of the Athletics' future ballpark at Las Vegas Boulevard and Tropicana Avenue, where foundation work progresses. The event was held at the A's Ballpark Experience Center.

"It’s going to be on the Las Vegas Strip," Soderstrom said. "Plenty of things to do for family and friends. The overall excitement of a new stadium... is going to be super special."

Manager Mark Kotsay lauded his growth: "Watching his maturation process for the last three years, I couldn’t be more proud... He’s definitely our future."

GM David Forst noted: "This is kind of the blueprint for how we want to open the ballpark in ‘28... The reality of that ballpark down on the strip allows us to operate differently."

The deal builds on extensions for Brent Rooker and Lawrence Butler, with future targets including Nick Kurtz, Jacob Wilson, and Shea Langeliers. The A's improved to 76-86 in 2025 (strong 34-24 post-July 24 finish), with tight team bonds shown at recent weddings.

"That’s probably one of the biggest reasons why this is coming to fruition now," Soderstrom said. "We have such great relationships... We’re super excited to get to Las Vegas."
