The UKIE Video Game Awards 2026, held last night, celebrated accomplishments in the British gaming industry. Battlefield 6, developed by Battlefield Studios with contributions from Guildford-based Criterion Games, took home the top honors of UK game of the year and best PC game. The title sold over seven million units in its first three days, marking the largest launch in the Battlefield franchise's history. It also became the best-selling game of 2025 in the United States.
In the console category, Rebellion's Atomfall received the award for best UK console game. FuturLab's PowerWash Simulator was recognized as the best UK mobile game. For mixed reality, encompassing VR, AR, and XR, Just Add Water and Dovetail Games' Train Sim World VR: New York won the prize. Glowmade's King of Meat earned the distinction for best UK user-generated content, though Amazon Game Studios announced last month that its online multiplayer servers would shut down on April 9, 2026, due to not finding the hoped-for audience.
Playstack secured the best UK publisher award for the second consecutive year. nDreams was named best UK developer, but the Farnborough-based studio announced restructuring yesterday, including significant staff reductions and the closure of two studios. Additional honors went to PlanetPlay as sustainability champion and Limit Break as diversity and inclusion champion. Yrs Truly won best UK service supplier, and Tanglewood Games was awarded rising star.
Four industry veterans were inducted into the UK Games Industry Hall of Fame: Debbie Bestwick, Richard Bartle, Jon Ingold, and Kristian Segerstråle. The event underscored the vibrancy of the UK gaming sector amid ongoing industry challenges.
