Bmkg forecasts cloudy to light rain in major cities

The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) forecasts potential light to heavy rain accompanied by lightning and strong winds in various major Indonesian cities on Saturday (November 15, 2025). Some areas will experience moderate rain, while others will be cloudy. Residents are advised to be alert to high waves and potential tidal flooding in certain coastal areas.

The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) issued a weather forecast for Saturday (November 15, 2025), predicting potential light, moderate, to heavy rain possibly accompanied by lightning and strong winds in various major Indonesian cities. BMKG forecaster Sentia explained that convergence areas extend across the Natuna Sea from waters west of Bengkulu to west of Lampung, the North Pacific Ocean off Biak Island, and the northern Natuna Sea from the west coast of North Sumatra to West Sumatra. Additionally, convergence occurs in the Indian Ocean west of Bengkulu, from Jambi to the west coast of Lampung, the Indian Ocean south of Banten to Central Java, and the Karimata Strait to the western Java Sea. These conditions enhance the potential for rain cloud development along the convergence paths.

Cities such as Medan, Tanjung Pinang, Palembang, Pangkal Pinang, Semarang, Yogyakarta, Surabaya, Kupang, Tanjung Selor, Pontianak, Samarinda, Banjarmasin, Makassar, Kendari, Merauke, and Nabire are likely to experience moderate to heavy rain with lightning and strong winds. Meanwhile, Pekanbaru, Padang, Jambi, Bengkulu, Lampung, Serang, Jakarta, Bandung, Denpasar, Palangkaraya, Palu, Mamuju, Ternate, Ambon, Sorong, Manokwari, Jayapura, and Jayawijaya are forecast for light to moderate rain. Other cities like Banda Aceh, Mataram, Manado, and Gorontalo will be cloudy.

Wave heights in Indonesian waters are generally 0.5 to 2.5 meters, but over 2.5-4 meters are possible in the northern Natuna Sea and the Indian Ocean west of Aceh to Lampung. BMKG urges the public to be alert to potential tidal flooding (rob) along the coasts of Riau Islands, Bangka Belitung, northern Central Java, southern West Java, South Kalimantan, and West Kalimantan. Furthermore, BMKG detected Tropical Cyclone Seed 97S in the Indian Ocean southwest of West Nusa Tenggara with wind speeds of 15 knots, potentially triggering heavy rain in West Nusa Tenggara and surrounding areas, as well as waves up to 4 meters in southern waters.
