Bones creator regrets violent cold open after american idol

Hart Hanson, the creator of the Fox procedural Bones, has said he regrets one specific cold open from season six. The episode opened with a graphic scene that aired directly after American Idol in 2011.

The scene came in the episode titled The Bullet to the Brain, which featured a character's head exploding before the opening credits. Hanson told Gold Derby that the timing was unfortunate because viewers had just watched light entertainment on American Idol and were then shown the most violent death of the series. He noted it was the only cold open he regretted and that the creative team had no advance notice of the schedule change to adjust the episode accordingly.
