Charades boards Clio Barnard's 'I See Buildings Fall Like Lightning' ahead of EFM

Paris-based sales company Charades has acquired worldwide rights to Clio Barnard's upcoming film 'I See Buildings Fall Like Lightning' and will launch it at the European Film Market in Berlin. The project, adapted from Keiran Goddard's novel, features a strong ensemble cast including Anthony Boyle and Joe Cole. A first look image has been unveiled as the film prepares for international exposure.

Clio Barnard, the BAFTA-nominated director known for 'Ali & Ava' and 'Dark River', is set to helm 'I See Buildings Fall Like Lightning', her adaptation of Keiran Goddard's novel penned by Enda Walsh. First announced in 2025, the film has now been acquired by Charades for worldwide sales rights, with the company planning to introduce it at the European Film Market (EFM) in Berlin.

The story centers on five childhood friends—Patrick, Shiv, Rian, Oli, and Conor—who once shared dreams and adventures but now, in their thirties, grapple with unfulfilled aspirations. The ensemble cast brings notable talent: Anthony Boyle from 'Say Nothing' and 'Masters of the Air'; Joe Cole of 'Gangs of London' and 'A Prayer Before Dawn'; Jay Lycurgo in 'Steve' and 'Half Bad: The Bastard Son & The Devil Himself'; Daryl McCormack from 'Good Luck to You, Leo Grande' and 'Bad Sisters'; and Lola Petticrew in 'Say Nothing' and 'She Said'. Supporting roles go to Millie Brady ('The Last Kingdom'), Lucie Shorthouse ('Rebus'), and James Eeles ('The Batman').

Production is led by Tracy O’Riordan of Moonspun Films, in collaboration with BBC Film, which co-finances alongside the BFI's National Lottery funding. Curzon Film handles UK distribution, with TPC also involved. Executive producers include Barnard, Walsh, Goddard, and representatives from BBC Film, BFI, TPC, Curzon, and Charades.

Charades co-founder Carole Baraton praised the partnership: “Collaborating with Clio Barnard and her long-time producer Tracy O’Riordan represents for us a unique opportunity to contribute to the growing legacy of this essential U.K. filmmaker, while also shining a light on her remarkable ensemble cast, whose energy and authentic performances immediately resonated with us—including young rising star Jay Lycurgo, recently awarded at the BIFAs.”

O’Riordan echoed the enthusiasm: “We’ve long been admirers of their passion and expertise, so we’re delighted to be working with Carole and team at Charades on ‘I See Buildings Fall Like Lightning’ and looking forward to introducing this beautiful film and stellar ensemble cast to an international audience.”

This development underscores the ongoing support for British independent cinema on the global stage.
