Chase Burns agrees to seven-year, $105 million extension with Reds

The Cincinnati Reds have reached an agreement with starting pitcher Chase Burns on a seven-year, $105 million contract extension. The deal, reported Thursday, will begin in 2027 and run through 2033 with no options or deferrals. Burns, 23, is coming off a strong season and his first All-Star selection.

Sources told MLB.com's Mark Feinsand that the Reds and Burns agreed to the contract on Thursday. The extension ties for the largest guarantee given to a pitcher in Reds history.

Burns has posted an 11-1 record with a 2.54 ERA over 18 starts and 102 2/3 innings this season. He ranks among National League Cy Young Award contenders alongside Jacob Misiorowski, Cristopher Sánchez and Shohei Ohtani.

The right-hander was the second overall pick in the 2024 Draft out of Wake Forest. He made his MLB debut last season and earned his first All-Star nod this year before opting out of Tuesday's game due to a tight right groin.

Burns joins Hunter Greene as a long-term piece in the Reds rotation. Greene is signed through 2028 with a club option for 2029.
