CONMEBOL president Alejandro Dominguez has urged FIFA to expand the 2030 World Cup to 64 teams. The push comes to mark the tournament's 100th anniversary.
On Monday (20/7/2026), Dominguez said the 2030 World Cup hosted by Uruguay, Argentina and Paraguay offers the right moment to enlarge the tournament format.
“Yang berikutnya adalah di rumah! Di 2030, Piala Dunia datang ke Uruguay, Argentina, dan Paraguay. Itu akan menjadi kesempatan luar biasa untuk sepak bola, untuk merayakan Piala Dunia dalam turnamen berisi 64 tim,” Dominguez said, as reported by Reuters.
The three South American nations will only host the opening matches, while the main tournament will be played in Spain, Portugal and Morocco. The proposed expansion is seen as increasing Indonesia's chances of reaching the finals.
