Dave Franco plans acting break after busy year

Actor Dave Franco is set to take a hiatus from acting following a prolific 2025 that included four new films and an Emmy-nominated TV cameo. He joked about disappearing after promoting the latest Now You See Me installment. His team clarified that the break is lighthearted, with upcoming projects already in the works.

Overview

Dave Franco, known for his role as Jack Wilder in the Now You See Me franchise, has announced plans for an acting break after a demanding year. In an interview with People magazine, Franco shared his intention to step back following the release of Now You See Me: Now You Don’t, the third film in the magic/action series.

"Basically, we’re getting through this week of press and then I will disappear for a while. I’m sure people are sick of me," Franco joked. "And I will go to the middle of nowhere and climb into a hole." When pressed on the duration of his hiatus, he teased, "You’ll see me when you see me."

Recent Projects

This year, Franco starred in four films: Bubble & Squeak, Regretting You, Together—where he acted alongside his wife Alison Brie—and the Now You See Me sequel. On television, he made an Emmy-nominated cameo as himself on Apple TV+'s The Studio, and provided voice roles for Fox's Krapopolis and Netflix's Long Story Short.

Upcoming Work

Franco's team emphasized that his comments were in jest. His upcoming film The Sh*theads, co-written and directed by Macon Blair, has recently wrapped production. Additionally, he is slated to appear in DreamWorks Animation's action-adventure comedy Forgotten Island.

This break comes as Franco continues to build on his career, separate from his brother James Franco, with a focus on diverse roles across film and animation.
