Day of the Jackal season 2 reveals new cast members

Sky's acclaimed thriller The Day of the Jackal is expanding its cast for season 2 with Pablo Schreiber and Weruche Opia joining Eddie Redmayne. The series regulars will appear in the espionage drama, which builds on the shocking finale of its first season. Production continues under new writing leadership.

Sky's hit espionage thriller The Day of the Jackal has announced key casting additions for its second season. Pablo Schreiber, known for roles in Halo and an Emmy-nominated performance as George 'Pornstache' Mendez in Orange Is the New Black, and Weruche Opia, who earned a BAFTA TV nomination for Best Supporting Actress as Terry in I May Destroy You, are joining as series regulars. Eddie Redmayne reprises his role as the elusive assassin known only as the Jackal.

The series is a modern adaptation of Frederick Forsyth's classic novel, centering on the Jackal's navigation through a world of high-stakes contracts and global intrigue. Season 1 followed MI6 agent Bianca Pullman, played by Lashana Lynch, as she pursued the assassin across Europe. The finale delivered a tragic twist: after tracking him to his hidden home, Bianca faced off against the Jackal and was fatally shot, allowing him to escape and setting up further story developments.

Details about Schreiber and Opia's characters remain undisclosed. The show's first season was a critical success on both sides of the Atlantic. Season 2 has no confirmed release date but is anticipated later this year on Sky in the UK and Peacock in the US.

In writing updates, Ronan Bennett, previously involved with Top Boy, is stepping down as head writer due to other commitments. He has been replaced by David Harrower, a playwright and screenwriter who worked on Lockerbie: A Search for Truth.
