Death Grips confirm work on first new album since 2018

Experimental hip-hop group Death Grips have announced they are writing and recording a new album, their first full-length release since 2018's Year of the Snitch. The update, shared on Instagram by vocalist MC Ride and drummer Zach Hill, comes amid speculation about the band's lineup. No release date or title has been revealed yet.

Announcement Details

Death Grips shared the news via an Instagram carousel post featuring studio photos on November 5, 2025. The caption, signed by Stefan 'MC Ride' Burnett and Zach Hill, stated: 'The Writing and recording of our next album is underway. We’re looking forward to the new Death Grips record.' This marks the band's first studio album in seven years, following the 2019 EP Gmail and the Restraining Orders.

Band Background and Recent Activity

Formed in 2010 in Sacramento, California, Death Grips are known for their abrasive fusion of hip-hop, punk, and noise, with landmark albums like 2012's The Money Store. They last toured in 2023, returning after a hiatus, though shows were marked by their signature chaos, including an abrupt exit from a performance in Fayetteville, Arkansas, due to glow sticks thrown onstage.

Co-founder and producer Andy Morin was absent from the announcement, echoing an April 2025 Instagram post where MC Ride and Hill alone affirmed: 'Despite rumor and hearsay, we remain active as Death Grips.' This followed a leaked private message from Morin suggesting the project might be over, though he added uncertainty: 'But truthfully none of us can ever predict what will happen with the group.' No official word on Morin's status has been given, leaving fans to speculate on a possible duo shift.

Other Projects

In the interim, Zach Hill has stayed active, launching the band Undo K From Hot, reissuing Hella's Hold Your Horse Is in 2023, and releasing Bag of Max Bag of Cass with Lucas Abela last week.

Fan Expectations

The cryptic update aligns with Death Grips' unpredictable style, building anticipation without specifics on sound or rollout. Fans have reacted enthusiastically online, dissecting the post amid the band's history of surprise drops and boundary-pushing.
