Deputy PM approves final five-year phase of productive safety net program

Deputy Prime Minister Temesgen Tiruneh has approved the implementation roadmap for the final five-year extension phase of the Productive Safety Net Programme. The decision came during a bilateral network meeting. He described the program as crucial for economic and social development.

The bilateral network meeting in Addis Ababa reviewed the implementation of six-month plans for food system transformation, food security and PSNP, health extension, Productive Ethiopia advocacy, and health extension program adjustments.

Deputy Prime Minister Temesgen Tiruneh stated that ensuring food security and productive labor force growth is highly important for economic and social development. He endorsed the federal-level food system transformation roadmap and issued directives for implementation by ministries and regional offices.

The PSNP extension forms a key part of the program, based on a 15-year roadmap, covering the final five-year phase from 2019 to 2023 in the Ethiopian calendar. It aims to swiftly reduce chronic food insecurity issues and enable households to become self-reliant.

Additionally, directives were given to strengthen health extension implementers at the regional level, adjust per capita health spending, expand Tsadu Ethiopia, and ensure adequate budgeting and resource mobilization for the health extension program adjustments.
