Disney has approved a new installment in the Cheetah Girls franchise titled The Cheetah Girls: Next Gen for Disney Channel and Disney+.
The project reunites several original cast members. Raven-Symoné returns as Galleria and Adrienne Bailon as Chanel. Lynn Whitfield and Lori Alter reprise their roles as Dorothea and Juanita. Sabrina Bryan will make a special appearance as Dorinda.
Production begins this month in South Africa. New cast members include Leah Sava’ Jeffries as Galleria’s daughter Faith and Carmen Sanchez as Chanel’s sister Dior. The story follows the characters as they travel to Africa to volunteer at a wildlife sanctuary.
Debra Martin Chase executive produces alongside Raven-Symoné. Bille Woodruff directs the film, which was written by Kara Holden, Sarah Watson and Deborah Swisher. Ayo Davis, president of Disney Kids & Family, highlighted the franchise’s focus on friendship and empowerment.
