Dragon Chilling wins FIDE World Team Rapid Chess Championship

Dragon Chilling claimed the FIDE World Team Rapid Chess Championship 2026 on tiebreaks after finishing level on points with two other teams. The Chinese squad edged out Team MGD1 and Hexamind Chess Team in Hong Kong.

All three teams ended the 12-round Swiss event with 18 points. Dragon Chilling secured first place via the Olympiad Sonneborn-Berger tiebreak.

Team MGD1 took silver and Hexamind Chess Team earned bronze. Mr Birdie and friends placed fourth on 17 points after falling short in the final round.

Pre-tournament favorites WR Chess finished 17th. World number one Magnus Carlsen suffered four consecutive losses for the first time since age 12.

The 2026 FIDE World Blitz Team Championship begins June 20 in Hong Kong.
