Brooklyn-bred boxer Edgar Berlanga Jr. spoke about balancing his boxing career with a new music release ahead of his scheduled fight this Sunday.
Edgar Berlanga Jr. released his debut single “Baby Mama” last month and received support from Fat Joe, DJ Khaled and Rick Ross. The Puerto Rican fighter described music as second nature and said he grew up around the lights, chains and cameras.
Berlanga Jr. is set to face Steven Butler at Madison Square Garden on July 26. He predicted the bout will end with him “catching a body” and said the event would solidify the summer after the Knicks’ championship win.
In the interview, Berlanga Jr. explained that creating the track revived his passion for boxing during a year off. He noted the same tunnel-vision mindset applies in both the gym and the studio, and he plans to drop another record after the fight.
