Edwina Tops-Alexander places fourth in Doha CSI3* Grand Prix

Five-time Australian Olympian Edwina Tops-Alexander finished fourth in the CSI3* Grand Prix at CHI Al Shaqab in Doha. Riding Iron Dames Cydello, she recorded a clear jump-off time of 37.22 seconds. The event took place from February 17 to 21 as part of the Doha Equestrian Tour.

Edwina Tops-Alexander competed at CHI Al Shaqab in Doha, Qatar, from February 17 to 21, an event within the Doha Equestrian Tour (DET). On Saturday, she paired with the Hanoverian gelding Iron Dames Cydello (Cascadello x Forsyth FRH) in the CSI3* Grand Prix 1.50m (Art. 220.2.1.2) on the Longines Outdoor Arena. One of six riders to achieve a clear jump-off round, Tops-Alexander stopped the clock at 37.22 seconds, narrowly missing a podium position.

The class was won by Switzerland’s Nadja Peter Steiner riding Quarantinette Vt Hazelarenhoekje, with a time of 35.54 seconds. Tops-Alexander commented after the event: “Cydello jumped great all weekend finishing up fourth in the CSI3* Grand Prix. We are looking forward to the next few shows coming up.”

Earlier in the week, on Friday, Tops-Alexander and Iron Dames Cydello jumped clear in the CSI3* Faults & Time 1.45m (Art. 220.2.1.1), placing inside the top twenty. She also finished 22nd in the CSI5* Faults & Time 1.50m (Art. 220.2.1.1) aboard Labantrix (Eldorado Vd Zeshoek x Abantos Nra Stb 83 4), incurring one rail down. On Thursday, fellow Australian Georgina Harvey Lazarus placed with her mare Butterfly Ennemmel in the CSI3* Faults & Time 1.30m (Art. 220.2.1.1).

The headline class on Saturday, the CSI5* Grand Prix 1.60m (Art. 220.2.1.2), was won by Brazil’s Marlon Modolo Zanotelli and Charly Heart in 36.65 seconds, ahead of Belgium’s Pieter Devos and Casual Dv Z in 37.84 seconds. Tops-Alexander, riding her Paris Olympic mount Fellow Castlefield (Je T’Aime Flamenco x Twister), had one rail down and finished 16th.
