Egypt boosts Western Desert oil output by 12,000 barrels daily

Egypt's petroleum sector added around 12,000 barrels per day of crude oil and condensates from the Western Desert over the past two weeks through gains at Khalda Petroleum and the General Petroleum Company.

The Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources linked the rise to investment programmes launched after clearing arrears owed to partners. This step restored confidence and sped up drilling.

Khalda Petroleum, a joint venture of the Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation and Apache Corporation, delivered most of the increase. Its output climbed from 113,300 barrels per day on 26 May 2026 to about 123,500 barrels per day on 8 June 2026 after five new wells started production.

The General Petroleum Company reached its highest total since October 2024 at 74,500 barrels of oil equivalent per day, including 61,000 barrels of crude. One new exploratory well in the Abu Senan area added 1,500 barrels of oil and one million cubic feet of gas daily.

Further tests are planned at the site to check additional layers for reserves.
