Elderly man dies in nursing home fire in Plauen

An 81-year-old man died in a fire at a nursing home in Plauen. Four other residents suffered smoke inhalation injuries. Firefighters extinguished the blaze quickly, but it was too late for the victim.

The incident occurred in the evening at a nursing home in Plauen, in the Vogtland region. Firefighters were alerted around 5:20 p.m. and responded to the scene. The fire started in the room of the 81-year-old man, with the exact cause still unclear, according to a police spokesperson.

Four other individuals were injured: Three men aged 24, 73, and 83, along with a 93-year-old woman, all suffering from smoke inhalation. A total of twelve residents were evacuated from the affected section of the nursing home. They were able to be accommodated in another wing of the building.

Firefighters quickly extinguished the blaze, but it was too late to save the 81-year-old. A crisis intervention team has begun its work to support those affected. Police are continuing to investigate the circumstances of the fire.
