Elle Fanning leads cast in Apple TV's Margo's Got Money Troubles

Apple TV+ is set to premiere the eight-part comedy-drama Margo's Got Money Troubles on April 15, starring Elle Fanning as a young single mother navigating financial struggles. The series, based on Rufi Thorpe's novel, features Michelle Pfeiffer and Nick Offerman as Fanning's on-screen parents. Created by David E. Kelley, it explores themes of family and resilience through unconventional means.

Margo's Got Money Troubles follows Margo Millet, a 20-year-old college dropout and aspiring writer who becomes a single mother after an affair with her professor. Overwhelmed by bills, she starts an OnlyFans account to support her daughter. The series is described in Apple's synopsis as a bold, heartwarming, and comedic family drama centered on Margo, the daughter of an ex-Hooters waitress and an ex-pro wrestler.

Elle Fanning portrays Margo, with Michelle Pfeiffer as her mother Shyanne and Nick Offerman as her father Jinx. In an interview with Deadline in December, Fanning said, "The book is so brilliant and heartwarming. Margo is such a hopeful character. She's dealt with these hardships in life, but somehow she is always able to overcome them. And I think she was really inspiring to play because of that, and the world is just very specific and very fun."

Showrunner David E. Kelley, known for Big Little Lies and The Lincoln Lawyer, explained his attraction to the project at an Apple TV press event, as reported by The Hollywood Reporter: "These characters spoke to me when I read the book, and the opportunity to make space for them in my head while adapting was just too exciting to pass up. It's such original storytelling."

Author and executive producer Rufi Thorpe described the adaptation as "bold and acerbic" in its examination of maternal sacrifices and survival tactics.

The cast also includes Nicole Kidman, whose character appears to mediate between Margo and the professor, played by Michael Angarano. Thaddea Graham joins as Margo's roommate Susie, with Greg Kinnear and Marcia Gay Harden in supporting roles.

The first three episodes will debut globally on Apple TV+ on April 15, followed by weekly releases for the remaining five, concluding on May 20.
