Welsh actress Eve Myles will lead a new six-part crime series titled Gone, drawing partial inspiration from a real-life cold case investigation. The show features her as Detective Annie Cassidy solving the mystery of a missing woman. It co-stars David Morrissey and is based on elements from a 1980s murder case in Bath.
The upcoming TV series Gone is a fictional narrative centered on Detective Annie Cassidy, portrayed by Eve Myles, as she investigates the disappearance of a woman. This six-part drama also includes David Morrissey, known for his role in Sherwood, in the cast.
The storyline takes partial cues from the true events documented in the book To Hunt a Killer, authored by crime correspondent Robert Murphy. The book details Detective Superintendent Julie Mackay's 2009 investigation into the 1984 murder of 17-year-old Melanie Road, who was killed while walking home from a nightclub in Bath. That probe, conducted 32 years after the crime, resulted in Christopher Hampton receiving a life sentence for the murder.
Both Mackay and Murphy contributed as consultants to ensure authenticity in the series, though it focuses on a separate fictional case.
Myles, a familiar face in suspenseful television, has previously appeared in Broadchurch and Keeping Faith. During a discussion at the Wales Screen Summit in October, she shared challenges in her career, noting a scarcity of strong roles for women. She reflected on her iconic Torchwood character, Gwen Cooper, saying: "When you play someone as strong as [Torchwood's] Gwen Cooper, someone so recognisable, it's quite difficult to come away from that or for other people to see you do anything differently."
Myles added optimism about the industry: "I think it's definitely getting better, female-led drama."
