Exhibition on Rachel Carson opens at Yale University Library

An exhibition titled Silent Springs, Windswept Seas: Rachel Carson’s Environmental Vision is on view through October at Yale University. The show runs from May 18 to October 4, 2026, at the Beinecke Rare Book & Manuscript Library.

The exhibition features around 100 objects. These include handwritten manuscripts of Carson’s Sea Trilogy, photographs, previously unpublished personal letters, and notebooks. It was curated by Carla Baricz and James Kessenides. The display highlights Carson’s life, writing, and scientific legacy. Carson, who lived from 1907 to 1964, is known for books such as Silent Spring from 1962 and The Sea Around Us from 1951. Her work addressed pesticide harms and ocean ecology.
