Six genre film projects received awards at the Fantasia Festival’s Frontières Co-Production Market in Montreal. The winners were announced at the closing cocktail on July 25.

Norwegian director Vegard Dahle’s zombie comedy “Grandmonster” took the top Outpost Award, which includes CAD$15,000 in post-production services. The story follows an American dropout who triggers a zombie outbreak at a Norwegian nursing home.

Outpost Special Mentions went to the sci-fi drama “Reset” by Celine Tien and Jerry Hsu and the Haitian gothic horror “Sea Spirits” by Edson Jean. Each received CAD$5,000 in post-production services.

The PurpleDOG Award for an official selection project was given to the Thai supernatural folk horror “Cher.” The PurpleDOG Award in the Gender Equity in Media Society section went to the Canadian horror thriller “Wifey.” The Sitges International Fantastic Film Festival Award, offering an invitation to pitch in October, was awarded to the UK dark comedy body horror “Eternal Valley.”

Frontières executive director Annick Mahnert said feedback on the projects pitched last Wednesday had been overwhelmingly positive. Three hundred delegates from 24 countries attended the market.
