Firefighters control structural fire in recoleta

Santiago's Fire Department controlled a structural fire that affected two homes in Recoleta commune this Monday morning. The emergency started around 8:00 a.m. on Rawson Street with Recoleta Avenue, with no injuries reported.

The structural fire in Recoleta started around 8:00 a.m. in a residential house at the intersection of Rawson Street and Recoleta Avenue. The first volunteers to arrive declared a second alarm, mobilizing more than 80 volunteers and equipment from at least 14 fire companies.

The 2nd Commander of Santiago's Fire Department, Juan Pablo Slako, reported that the fire was quickly brought under control. “We have the fire controlled at this moment; we're working on removal tasks, and these are the last hotspots remaining inside the property. Therefore, the fire or the emergency would already be controlled,” Slako explained.

The affected structure was a large, old-construction house divided into two dwellings where six to seven people lived, making them the main victims. During debris removal efforts, materials similar to those used in workshops were found. “Yes, there are indeed workshop-type materials. As I say, based on what the investigation determines, we'll know what caused the fire,” the commander added.

Fortunately, no injuries were reported among residents or volunteers. The cause of the fire will be determined by the ongoing investigation.
