FIU women's basketball sets record in 62-36 win over Delaware

The FIU Panthers women's basketball team dominated the Delaware Blue Hens 62-36 on Thursday afternoon, setting a program record for the fewest points allowed in a conference regular season game. This victory marked the first win over Delaware in FIU history and tied the team's largest point differential of the season against a Division I opponent. Key performances from Rhema Collins and Parris Atkins powered the Panthers to a strong second-half surge.

In Miami, the FIU Panthers (16-9 overall, 9-5 in Conference USA) faced the Delaware Blue Hens (12-14, 6-8 CUSA) in a Thursday afternoon matchup. The Panthers held Delaware to just 36 points, establishing a new program benchmark for the lowest points allowed in a CUSA regular season game. Previously, the fewest in the CUSA era was 40 points against UTSA in 2014 and 2019, while the overall program low was 39 against Troy in 2013 during FIU's final Sun Belt season.

The game remained competitive at halftime, with FIU leading by six points. However, the second half belonged to the Panthers, who outscored Delaware 37-17 to secure the 26-point victory. This margin tied FIU's largest differential of the season against a Division I team, matching their earlier 26-point win over Western Kentucky.

Rhema Collins led the way with 20 points, eight rebounds, and two steals. Senior Parris Atkins delivered her first career double-double, scoring 17 points and grabbing 10 rebounds, while adding three assists, one block, and one steal. Adama Badjie Coly, from Spain, contributed 10 points, eight rebounds, and one assist as the third Panther in double figures.

This triumph represents FIU's first victory over Delaware in program history. The Panthers look ahead to hosting Liberty for their second and final regular-season meeting on Saturday, February 21, at 1 p.m.
