Five people killed in road accident in Saône-et-Loire

Five people died in a violent head-on collision between two cars on Monday late afternoon in southern Saône-et-Loire. The victims, aged 70 to 80, were four women and one man. A SAMU helicopter responded to the scene in La Pougre.

The accident occurred on Monday late afternoon in La Pougre, between La Clayette and Saint-Symphorien-des-Bois, in southern Saône-et-Loire. According to the department president, André Accary, and local media, it was a violent head-on collision between a 4x4 and a city car. The five occupants of the vehicles perished: four women and one man, all aged between 70 and 80.

André Accary reacted on Facebook, offering condolences: « I wish to extend my most sincere condolences this evening to the families of the victims and to salute the many firefighters ». He also noted the deployment of a SAMU helicopter to handle this « emotionally heavy intervention ».

Numerous firefighters were mobilized at the scene. An investigation has been opened to determine the exact circumstances of the accident. This tragic event highlights the dangers of the road in this rural area, where head-on collisions remain a major risk.
