Eastern Jakarta is worst hit with water levels up to 150 cm, while residents opt to stay on upper floors without evacuating. Transjakarta services are disrupted, with 28 routes diverted or shortened.
Heavy rains began soaking Jakarta since Wednesday night, January 28, 2026, causing overflows from the Ciliwung River and Pesanggrahan Stream. The Katulampa Dam reached Alert Level 3, worsening flooding in various settlements. According to DKI Jakarta's Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD), 18 neighborhoods (RTs) were flooded until Thursday morning, January 29, 2026.
In East Jakarta, 14 RTs were affected, including 4 in Bidara Cina Ward, 4 in Kampung Melayu, 5 in Cawang, and 1 in Cililitan, with water levels of 110-150 cm. The Kebon Pala area in Kampung Melayu saw flooding up to 135 cm at 08:30 WIB, rising from nearly one meter the previous night. RT 13/RW 04 Kampung Melayu head Sanusi said, "This morning, at 08:30 WIB, the water level has reached 135 centimeters." Residents chose to stay on the second floor without evacuating.
South Jakarta had 4 RTs flooded in Rawajati Ward (1 RT) and East Pejaten Ward (3 RTs), with heights of 30-60 cm. West Jakarta reported average flooding of 30 cm in some RTs. BPBD's Head of Data and Information Center, Mohamad Yohan, explained, "The cause is high rainfall and overflows from the Ciliwung River and Pesanggrahan Stream." BPBD deployed personnel to monitor and coordinate water pumping with the Water Resources Agency, Road Infrastructure Agency, and Fire and Rescue Agency, aiming for quick recession.
The flooding also disrupted transportation. Transjakarta adjusted 28 routes, including BRT, Mikrotrans, and integrated shuttles, which were diverted or shortened in areas like Kampung Melayu, Cawang, and Pulo Nangka. Transjakarta's Head of Communications, Ayu Wardhani, stated, "Transjakarta services are adjusted for the safety of passengers and fleet." Some routes like JAK 112 were temporarily halted, causing delays in corridors 3, 7, 9, and 13.
