Ghost releases new single 'Umbra' with official video

The Swedish rock band Ghost has released a music video for their single 'Umbra,' a track from their album 'Skeletá.' The video, directed by Amir Chamdin, depicts a story of star-crossed lovers spiraling toward mutual annihilation. Papa V Perpetua narrates the tale in the clip.

Ghost, the Swedish rock group founded in Linköping in 2006, announced the release of their new single 'Umbra' accompanied by an official music video. The song is featured on their sixth studio album, 'Skeletá,' which was released in 2025 and marked their first number one position on the US Billboard 200 chart. Described as a highlight from the worldwide number one album, 'Umbra' has become a crowd favorite during live performances, often drawing demands for more cowbell from fans in arenas.

The music video for 'Umbra' was directed by Amir Chamdin and presents a dramatic narrative. It follows the path of two lovers whose relationship leads to mutual destruction. Papa V Perpetua, Ghost's ringmaster figure, oversees the events and recounts the story with grace. This visual treatment aligns with the band's theatrical style, known for its elaborate presentations.

Ghost's history includes their debut album 'Opus Eponymous' in 2010, which brought them international attention. Subsequent releases were 'Infestissumam' in 2013 and 'Meliora' in 2015, the latter reaching number one in Sweden and number eight in the US. The band followed with 'Prequelle' in 2018 and 'Impera' in 2022. Band members, except the lead singer, perform as 'Nameless Ghouls.' The lead singer, revealed as Tobias Forge in 2017 following a royalties lawsuit, embodies a 'demonic anti-pope' persona, performing under names like 'Papa Emeritus' and variations.

Ghost has received recognition including multiple Swedish Grammis nominations and a 2016 Grammy Award for Best Metal Performance for their single 'Cirice.' The band has upcoming shows scheduled: February 15, 2026, at Climate Pledge Arena in Seattle, WA; February 17 at Moda Center in Portland, OR; February 20 at Golden 1 Center in Sacramento, CA; February 21 at Honda Center in Anaheim, CA; and February 23 at Intuit Dome in Inglewood, CA.
