Giorgia Meloni expresses respect for Marine Le Pen without commenting on her judicial fate

Italy's prime minister stated her respect for the National Rally leader during a press conference in Antibes.

Giorgia Meloni stated her respect for Marine Le Pen on Thursday during a press conference at the France-Italy summit in Antibes, alongside Emmanuel Macron. She noted that she did not know the legal terms of the procedure and was not in a position to judge them.

The Italian leader added that she preferred to look deeper before judging others and that she was not in a position to tell the French what was best for their future. She recalled that she had not appreciated similar comments made about her and the Italians.

Marine Le Pen will learn on July 7 if the justice system confirms on appeal her five-year ineligibility sentence for embezzlement of public funds. This decision will determine her candidacy in next year's presidential election.
