Hallmark Media and Churchill Downs announce Kentucky Roses movie

Hallmark Media and Churchill Downs Racetrack have partnered on a new original movie titled "Kentucky Roses," shot on location at the iconic Churchill Downs. The film premieres on May 2, 2026, coinciding with the 152nd Kentucky Derby. Starring Andrew Walker and Odette Annable, it explores romance and family legacy tied to the Derby's traditions.

On January 28, 2026, Hallmark Media and Churchill Downs announced "Kentucky Roses," an all-new original movie filmed at Churchill Downs, the home of the Kentucky Derby in Louisville, Kentucky. The story unfolds across two timelines: the present day and 1932. In the modern era, Sadie Moore, played by Odette Annable, works in the Churchill Downs greenhouse and aspires to become a florist, hoping to contribute to the Derby's garland of roses like her great-grandmother Gloria, portrayed by Ally Ledford. As Derby Day nears, Sadie encounters Ash Taylor, enacted by Andrew Walker, the son of the Churchill Downs CEO (Gregg Henry), who is tasked with repairing the storm-damaged Twin Spires.

Both characters grapple with family legacies while forging their own paths, leading to a romance complicated by a hidden historical connection between their families—a bittersweet love story from the past. The cast also includes Peyton Meyer and Brynn Thayer. Production wrapped in 2025, and the movie will air on Hallmark Channel on May 2, 2026, streaming the next day on Hallmark+. This date aligns with the 152nd Kentucky Derby, scheduled for 6:57 p.m. ET as race 12 of 14, broadcast on NBC and Peacock.

"Hallmark Media and Churchill Downs are both legacy brands, each with more than a hundred years of history," said Jessica Callahan, vice president at Hallmark Media, in a news release. "Additionally, we share a commitment to giving generations of fans a memorable experience that fosters deep connections. Together, we’re thrilled to bring audiences an inspiring story of community, courage, and time-honored traditions."

The partnership extends to Hallmark Gold Crown stores, featuring a collection of romantic jewelry inspired by the film. Churchill Downs is located at 700 Central Ave., Louisville, Ky.
